A copay is a payment owed by the person insured at the time a covered service is rendered. The copay covers part of the cost of the service and is set by the insurance company.

Copays are set in MacPractice in the Insurance Tab within the Patient Tab of the Patient Ability. Copays can be overridden by the Insurance Company > Plan > Copay Per Procedure.

Copays are considered a part of the actual fee.

In the New Charge window, checking the Charge Copay box will take the Copay amount set in the Patient Tab and adjust the insurance estimating as applicable.

It is possible to ensure that a charge will always require a copay by selecting the Requires Co-Pay checkbox in the Fee Schedule Reference.
