How do I get started with ICD-10?

How do I switch to ICD-10?

You will need to update the Coding Preferences in MacPractice. Please view our MacPractice ICD-10 page to get started, or consult our full ICD-10 Code Mapping documentation for more extensive help.

Can the coding system be changed to bill an ICD-9 charge before 10/1/2015?

You may manually select a different code system as the claim is created. On the claim creation window, select which code system to use from the menu in the Diagnosis Code System column.

You may also need to map ICD9 codes for dates prior to 10/1/2015.

Why does the ICD indicator in Box 21 on the CMS 1500 display a 0? Should it be 10 for ICD-10?

The NUCC has defined 0 as the correct ICD indicator to report that ICD-10 codes are used in the Diagnosis or Nature of Illness or Injury box. See the NUCC Insurance Claim Form Instruction Manual for more information.

Can I make a list of the most commonly used ICD-10 Diagnosis Codes in references?

You can create/edit a custom diagnosis list for ICD-10, but MacPractice currently cannot establish a code type from the custom list. You will have to map each time the code is used.

This can cause issues with claim creation.
