Preventive Routine Care

The Preventive Routine Cares reference is used in conjunction with the Preventive Care tab or widget in the Clinical tab of the Patient's record to record routine preventive procedures that the patient has performed at a referral's office, rather than in your office. MacPractice comes with a handful of default items, including Colonoscopy, Mammography, Pelvic exam, and Cholesterol Screening. You may find it useful to review the default Preventive Routine Care records before creating a custom record. They provide an excellent example of what this feature is capable of.

 

To create a new Preventive Routine Care record, go to References, select that node in the sidebar, then click the big green plus button in the upper left corner of the MacPractice window. A New Record will appear in the sidebar.

First, give the record a Name, indicating the purpose. To the right of the Name field, you can indicate whether the preventive care applies to Male patients, Female patients, or All.

 

Below the Name field are two panes. The left pane allows you to add new sets of age and code parameters for the record. One set of parameters will already exist by default. The right pane allows you to set the actual filters, and enter information about the code and frequency for the preventive care item.

In our example, we can see the Preventive Routine Care record recommends children under the age of 15 receive an eye exam annually, while patients age 16 and up should have the exam every 2 years. We have the "16+ Years" line selected, so any changes we make to the right pane will affect that line. You can enter the age range using theStart Age andEnd Age fields, and enter the correct procedureCodefor the screening. You can indicate how frequently the screening should take place using theEvery __ Year/Month options. Finally, you can enter a briefDescription regarding the screening procedures and purpose.

A text summary of the Preventive Routine Care record will appear below the fields. When you have finished entering the information, be sure you save your changes using the Command-S keyboard shortcut, or by going to the Edit menu and choosing Save Record.
