Tooth Number

A Tooth Numbering system can be defined in the References ability under the Tooth Number node.

The default MacPractice tooth numbering, based on the Universal Numbering System, displays Permanent teeth as numbers 1 - 32, and Primary teeth as letters A - T. There is also an International tooth numbering system, based on the Federation Dentaire Internationale Numbering System, under the Tooth Number node in References.

However, you can also create your own tooth numbering schemes. To create a custom numbering system, click the plus button to create and rename a new record. To edit the associated number or letter, select a tooth and click on the green highlighted box. You can then type in your preferred number for the selected tooth. You can press Tab on your keyboard to cycle to the next tooth in order.
You can also click any of the tooth quadrants to modify the associated abbreviations in the same fashion. 
To apply the changes to the Tooth Number record, log out and back in to MacPractice.

To make this new numbering system the default, navigate to the MacPractice Menu > Preferences. Select Localization in the Preferences Sidebar. Select the new tooth numbering system from the Tooth Numbering Scheme menu.

Select the appropriate location from the Charting Locale menu. For instance, Australian dental offices may wish to use the tooth cusp as a surface and chart five surface restorations.
